READ COMICS TO LEARN ENGLISH & START TO "GET" THOSE ALL-IMPORTANT CULTURAL REFERENCES
Read Comics to get Deep Inside the English Language |
Let's get this party started with a great website for you to use. This one is for those of you who like comic books. Here are three great words for you to learn: FREE, FREE, FREE!
>>> https://www.comixology.com/free-comics
And here is another one. It also features those three great English words (free, free, free). That was a joke, by the way. The link is NOT a joke. The link works, and it is free, free, free to use.

When you read, have a notebook handy. Write down any words you do not know. Have a dictionary handy. Check the meaning of a word you do not know.
Yes, you might find that you write down the same word many times before you start to remember the word. And there will probably be words that you remember and then forget.
Here are two links to some of the best online articles and resources for reading in English:
Method Two:
READ THE BOOK WHILE YOU LISTEN TO THE AUDIO VERSION OF THE EXACT SAME BOOK
Another way to hack language learning is to incorporate listening to the English text of a great book...while you read the same text in English.
Here is a useful link for you to search out stories that will keep your attention humming:
Another way to skin this cat is to read an article in English while you listen to an audio version of the exact same article.
This way you can follow along, and begin to see how English words are pronounced when you read them.
If you practice this method of learning English, you are going to be using a super language leveraging approach.
What does this mean?
When you use your brain to read and listen at the same time to the same words, you are making some powerful neural connections.
In fact, the time you spend reading like this will begin to explode your English language skill.
It is different than watching a movie in English with English subtitles...or subtitles in your own language.
How is it different?
I am glad you asked me this question.
When you sit and read a book, your eyes are on the printed words. So this is where your brain is looking. And when you listen to an audio recording of the words you are reading, that is where your brain is listening.
It is what your brain is listening to...the words that your brain is looking at. This is super powerful.
Okay, so what should you do when you come across words or expressions that you do not understand?
Make a note of the word or expression. You can write this in a notebook or copy and paste and put in a document file. If you are on your smartphone, you can copy and send yourself a message.
Great, good...now find out what the word or expression means. Yes, it sucks to do all this. Yes, it is a lot like work. But this is where your real skill with the English language begins to grow.
Burn this into your brain --- your English language fluency will come to you one word at a time. As you master each odd expression and dig deep inside what it means, that is the how part of how you really learn English.
WHEN YOU ARE READING AND LISTENING, YOU MAY NEED TO STOP AND GO BACK AND START OVER.
If you don't understand something while you are doing this method, make sure you stop and go back to where you did understand. Then start from that point.
BIG TIP: Use audio versions that are read slowly so you can follow along. Or, you can stop, back up, and then start and listen, again.
When you practice this method of reading the book and listening to the audio, you are going to create a deep connection inside your brain's language centers. This deep connection will include a clearer and faster link with the pronunciation of a word when spoken, and the meaning of the word when it is written.
Plus, you will start to connect with the cadence of the English language. This means you will start to really get where the emphasis is to be placed when you enunciate each word.

Method Three:
READ DUAL LANGUAGE BOOKS
CHILDREN'S STORY BOOKS, BOOKS FOR ADULTS, ENGLISH ON ONE PAGE, YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE ON THE OPPOSITE PAGE (Or the Same Page)
One way to twist up your English language reading skills is to find books that have your native language on the facing page. This way you can dig deep inside the interior meaning of the English text.
You can do this with articles and also with vocabulary samples...like this one:
And then there is this one:
There are many free dual language resources. You can also buy great books in the dual language format.

This next one is for kids and adults. It is not the same as anything else you have ever tried before. And in this case, you do not read anything.
So, take a break and listen to the best entertainment from days gone by. There used to be something called radio, and it was a big deal.
