WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST WEAKNESS WITH THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?

Is it READING? Maybe it is LISTENING? What about WRITING? Perhaps it is SPEAKING?

Take the Seven Day Challenge. Explode Your Weakest ENGLISH LANGUAGE Skill to the Next Level.

Are you frustrated with your progress in learning English?
Have you reached a certain level of skill but cannot seem to make any further improvements?

This seven-day challenge will help you get out of your English language rut.

How it works

You must decide how much time you can devote to do this each day for the next seven days.

Select a specific amount of time that you can realistically commit to do this each day.

If you decide you can do it for one hour (60 minutes), that is great. If you decide you can do it for five minutes, that is better than nothing.

By now, you might be saying to yourself, "But Robert, how can I find the time to do any of this? I am so busy already. You don't know my schedule and all my responsibilities."

Okay, fair enough. Watch this video I made for you:
► HOW TO FIND TIME TO LEARN ENGLISH VOCABULARY

Yes, it is about studying vocabulary, true...but the method can be applied to any skill you need to find time to study.

CRUCIAL SUCCESS POINTER:
Use a timer to time yourself. If you can, set an alarm to let you know when the time is up. Stick to your time budget. If you can do more, that is great...do it. And if you find more time later in your day, go for it.

Okay, great. Now what?

Make Yourself Accountable

Now you need someone to be accountable to who you will make a real commitment to.

For this commitment to have any teeth, it is best if it is a written contract where you obligate yourself to be fully accountable to your Accountability Monitor.

And then you have to report to this person each day for seven days giving a report about what you have done.

This report MUST be made in English.

What goes in your report?

Here is the outline for the Seven Day English Reading Challenge:

  • What you read (title, chapters, sections)
  • How many pages you read
  • How long did you read for
  • What new words you found
  • The content of what you read (give examples)

Maybe you do not have anyone who can fill the role of your accountability coach. Then you are going to have to hire yourself for the job.

What do you consider to be your greatest weakness in English?

Reading?
Writing?
Listening?
Speaking?

Choose the one that is your weakest skill.
That is the skill we are going to work on for the next seven days.

All your English language study time will be devoted to your greatest weakness.

THE NEXT STEP

This is where the Seven Day Challenge bites deep into the really hard work of learning the English Language.

Many English language students tell me that READING English is their greatest strength when it comes to understanding English.

Is that true for you, too?
Or, would you say that reading English is your greatest weakness?

If it is your greatest weakness, or you want to sharpen your English reading skills, then this next part is for you.

What to do next?

Each day for the next seven days you complete the following tests:

DAY ONE ► ENGLISH CLUB READING TEST

DAY TWO ► EXAM ENGLISH LEVEL 2 READING TEST

DAY THREE ► BRITISH COUNCIL LEARN ENGLISH READING

DAY FOUR ► EXAM ENGLISH B2 READING

DAY FIVE ► FREE READING TEST

DAY SIX ► READING A TO Z FLUENCY PRACTICE PASSAGES

The biggest challenge you will probably face is to be able to clearly explain what you have read in your own words.

This is the important skill of being able to paraphrase what you have read.

To double down on your English language skill improvement, please write your own version of what you have just read.

Explain in writing using your own words what you have read.

You can do this in the form of a condensed executive summary or you can write a more extensive book report.

To learn more about how to do this, please click on these links:
Executive summary

►  Book report

The next step is to give an oral report in English of what you have read.

This gives you the English language workout that pushes your ability to explain what you think, feel and mean about what you have read.

Doing this will make your brain sweat and force English words out of hiding. Yes, it isn't easy to talk about something you have read, but it is important to do it because you will have to use your English language muscles.

I want you to record yourself making this report and then listen to yourself. Here is a great free tool for you to use:

PLEASE NOTE:
I know that this is a lot of work to do. And you can be sure I am weeping tears of anguish for you. But if you want to bust through the current limits of your English language skills at reading and knowing what you have read - - - there is really only one way that is going to happen.

Let me put it this way: You may HATE doing the work, but you are going to LOVE the results.

Here is a fantastic and great complete lesson on reading English:
